Miami takes the DII title
by Alex Kyrias, Vice-President Div. II - ACHA
The Division II ACHA Nationals started like any other in the
past 3 years begging the question, would Life University win
their fourth consecutive title? The answer on the first day
of the tournament was no. Weber State upset Life 5-4 the very
first day of the tournament. The first day was also filled with

Magic City Magic! (3/7/00)
The Icers win their third straight tournament game in overtime to
seize the Murdoch Cup!
For the third game in a row, the Penn State Icers come from behind in
the final few minutes of regulation to tie it up and send the game
into overtime.
With a minute five left in the third, PSU's Todd Dakan slipped the puck by
EMU goalie Charlie Pulley to even the score at two a peice. In overtime,
with the momentum swinging back to PSU, the "magic man" Alon Eizenmann showed the world
he had at least one more trick up his sleeve, and brought home the win!
Alon Eizenmann and Mark Scalley were named co-MVP's. It's doubtful
anyone would have complained if the whole team shared the honor!
Congratulations to the Penn State Icers, the 2000 ACHA National Champions!
And congratulations to all the teams that participated in the tournament!
It was the most competitive and exciting yet!
Who wants to be...number 1?
We're down to the wire! With such a balanced top rung in the
ACHA this year, it's anyone's guess who's going to take the prize.
Of course, about 250 of you did guess by entering Hockey101's first ever
tournament pool. In a few days we'll know which team can go
all the way, and which fans know their stuff!
For those of us not making the trip up to Minot, but still wish to follow
the games, there's at least two stations that will be broadcasting
some of the games online. WOUB (Athens, OH) will be broadcasting
the OU games via
the OU Hockey web site.
Also, WRSC (State College, PA) will be broadcasting the PSU games
online. There's a link to that on
the PSU Hockey web site.
Get some bragging rights!
Now that the final seedings are in for the D1 National Tournament,
it's time to see who's been paying attention here at Hockey101. It's
time to put up or shut up in
Hockey101's first ever tournament pool!
Look over the choices, and let the world know your predictions.
Will Delaware upset OU? Will 'zona spoil UMD's trip? Does
Minot want to make a statement? The winner of the pool gets the
ultimate prize - bragging rights on the Hockey101 message board for the next year!
And on to Minot!
The last national ranking determined which teams will be invited
to Minot, ND to compete in the ACHA D1 National Championship. They are:
1. Penn State
2. Eastern Michigan
3. Michigan-Dearborn
3. Ohio
5. Iowa State
6. Arizona
7. Minot State
8. Delaware
9. Arizona State
10. Towson
11. West Virginia
12. Illinois
The actual seedings will be determined by the next national ranking.
For those of you planning on heading to the tourney, to let you know
what sort of weather to expect, we've linked on the right to Minot's
current conditions (courtesy of the Weather Underground).
So far, so good!
Thanks goes out to all the correspondents and die-hard message board
addicts for making Hockey101's first few months in the new
format such a success!
