Oakland University won their second ACHA D2 title on Sunday in Rochester, NY, defeating Liberty University 7-6. Grizzlies forward T.J. Schaffler scored the game winner 15:18 into OT, and forward Brandon Lipari was named tourney MVP. In Wentzille, MO on Sunday, Lindenwood University won their first ACHA Women's title, defeating Robert Morris College 3-2, with Kristen Dlugos scoring the game winner 40 seconds into OT.

Junior forward Matt Loftus scores the game winner with 58 seconds left, and Rhode Island wins its first ACHA Division 1 title Sunday afternoon at Iceline in West Chester, PA, beating Penn State 3-1 in the championship game. Junior goalie Anthony Feyock was named tournament MVP.

Wright State wins their first Division 3 Championship, defeating Northwood University Saturday afternoon in the title game 4-3 at Germain Arena in Fort Myers, FL. Raiders defenseman Jayson Cash was named tournament MVP.

Battista reaches 500th career win

Penn State's Head Coach Joe Battista reached his 500th career victory this week at the ASU Desert Classic. The win came against the tournament host ASU, which the Icers won 6-5.

Illinois maintains the top spot in the second Hockey 101 poll of the season. Rhode Island and OU each move up a spot, and PSU drops to 4. Also moving up is Iowa State - a strong start gets them back into the top 12 and nets them the 5 spot.

"Showcase Showdown" settles nothing

Ohio and Rhode Island tie 3-3 in the prime matchup Saturday night at the ACHA D1 Showcase in Youngstown, OH. Both teams ended up 2-0-1 for the weekend; only Robert Morris (IL) and Washington & Jefferson managed perfect 3-0 runs.

Arizona State upsets Penn State

The 10th-ranked Sun Devils skipped the Showcase, but came east anyway and shocked the 2nd-ranked Icers 4-2 on Friday night. ASU records their first win ever against PSU in ten attempts. Penn State won the rematch 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Penn State Upsets NCAA Division I Opponent

Penn State defeated NCAA Division I Robert Morris University 3-2 Saturday night.

The win against the Colonials was Penn State's fourth win in its last six games against NCAA Division I opponents. Given the large number of freshmen on the roster, a win against an NCAA team so early in the season was especially impressive.

"We've consistently proven that we are competitive at [the NCAA] level," Penn State head coach Joe Battista said. Battista ranked Saturday's victory in his (..more..)

USU's Wardell suffers neck injury

Utah State's Cory Wardell hurt his neck and had to be taken from the ice in a stretcher during an Oct. 8 game against Eastern Washington.

A USU assistant coach said the hospital called after examining Wardell and said that "he would be okay."

Wardell dove to keep an EWU player from getting a clean shot on a breakaway and hit the boards head first. He stayed motionless on the ice for about 20 minutes until ambulance crews could arrive. The team physician said he was calm and (..more..)
